Many people do not understand the importance of studying history. There are a number of reasons why studying is important. It helps us understand where are society came from. Throughout the course we constantly saw how society was evolving into what eventually became the fundamentals within Canadian society. History teaches us how things change over time. In this course I learnt that one individual or event could create change. This was shown in our course material when Chloe Cooley screamed which eventually led to slavery in Canada being abolished. History provides a sense of identity. It is interesting to understand where we came from and how we have changed throughout history. It is important to preserve history because it provides us with early warning signs of our past mistakes. As a society history is important because we need to learn from our mistakes so that we do not make the same mistakes.
